Ricky Hatton: Boxing is dying. UFC is ‘Proper Fighting’
Posted in: General Content by: Luke HindsRicky ‘The Hitman’ Hatton did not mince his words after his obvious frustration at his younger brother Matthew being given a last-minute stipulation to drop 4 lbs just weeks before his next fight. His opponent Zab Judah stated the fight would take place at 10st 3lbs or not at all, which effectively ruled out Matthew with no time to safely drop from 10st 7lbs for the September the 19th primarily date.
Hatton then went further and told the Manchester Evening News that “It’s no wonder boxing is dying. Boxing is now full of people who talk the talk, but don’t back it up. If you go to UFC you are seeing proper fights.”
“I’m a fan of UFC because it is all action, proper fighting,” he said. “They are going the right way about it to get people interested.”
“There is a concern in boxing that UFC is taking its place. People seem to get more value for money. UFC would be right up my street but I think I will stick to boxing.”
It seems however that The Hitman will not be making a crossover to MMA as he also stated “I used to do kick box so maybe I would be all right but boxing is brutal enough for me.”
