Mercedes-AMG celebrates 50-year anniversary with new GT C coupe

Mercedes-AMG is going after the Porsche 911 with its GT sports auto and unveiled today a new model in the lineup. Those new panels are not just for style, as well. The performance variant gets new air intake grilles, a front splitter insert in silver chrome plus flics in high-gloss black. Their upcoming vehicle, expected to be revealed at the 2017 Frankfurt Auto Show in September, had bits of information revealed on Facebook. The 0-100kmph sprint takes just 3.7seconds and the auto will go all the way to 317kmph. The Roadster retains that quickness, but loses 2 km/h in top speed due to weight.

For its initial production run GT C will be available exclusively with the limited Edition 50 option pack, coinciding with AMG's 50th anniversary celebrations occurring this year. There also larger intakes and all models adopt the GT R's vertical louvers located in the bottom of the front bumper, which can be opened and closed by an electric motor in around one second. AMG is also offering a new smartphone app called AMG Track Pace.

"The range-topping AMG GLA 45 gets some additional tweaks, with a new AMg grille, two-tone 20" alloys, pretend leather dash top with red stitching, instrument tweaks and some extra AMG badging. The speedometer will look a bit different, too, with it being divided into 30 km/h stages.

A new camera provides a 360-degree view around the GLA, while interior changes include chrome highlights and optional sport seats.

Customers can choose from an exterior carbon fibre detailing pack, which uses the lightweight material on the front wings, mirrors, side skirts and rear diffuser. The AMG Dynamic Plus package will also include a locking front axle differential and AMG ride control suspension and a performance steering wheel.

Mercedes-AMG dropped a news bomb through its Instagram account, the confirmation of its forthcoming hypercar, Project ONE, a 1,000 horsepower all-wheel drive, Formula One-powered hypercar built not only for the track, but also the road. "The new GLA will draw even more SUV fans to Mercedes because it offers even greater comfort and functionality - and a fresh, more distinctive look that emphasizes its off-road capabilities".
