And North Carolina got over a hump that, at times this season, felt like a mountain. I couldn't do it without them. They won. They were down eight to Oregon. The two teams combined to shoot less than 35 percent from the field. The bottom line is North Carolina made the plays down the stretch and the Zags didn't. That should have given the ball back to UNC. He has the most wins of any player in Division I history, at 137, and was a part of both Gonzaga teams that reached No. 1 rankings and a top seed in the NCAA Tournament, including the 2013 team. Karnowski has been a leader for the Bulldogs all season long but was ice cold in the first half with Meeks in his face. That tagline belonged to the Bulldogs' guard Josh Perkins, who before this game went scoreless against SC. As the best rebounding team in the country, they got out-rebounded, 49-46. They got it down to one before Gonzaga eventually took a three point lead into halftime. When was the last time there were 27 personal fouls in the second half?

UNC scored on its next possession to lead to a win. From there on, it was back and forth for the remainder of the game. When the game was almost over and he was standing at the free throw line, the first attempt clanged off the rim before the second found the net.

We can save that arguing for when Roy finally hangs it up for good, though.

The party began with about seven seconds left when Tar Heel fans converged from all corners of town onto the intersection of Franklin and Columbia streets.

The next possession had the play that will be forever remembered. Moments later, Williams-Goss twisted an ankle and could not elevate for a jumper that would've given the Bulldogs the lead.

The most crucial missed call in the game came late in the fourth quarter with North Carolina leading 66-65.

To be clear, there were questionable calls that went against - and benefited - both teams all night. Throughout the NCAA tournament there have been too many bad fouls and missed calls. And yeah, in that scenario, Jackson probably goes off on Josh Perkins or whoever Gonzaga would have had guarding him.

Humbly, Williams told reporters after the game that he didn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as the iconic Dean Smith, but he might want to get used to it. Williams' third national championship puts him in rarefied air alongside coaches Jim Calhoun and Bob Knight and puts him one national championship victory ahead of Smith (2). The offense was really not great.

Check out the above photo of North Carolina's Kennedy Meeks battling Gonzaga's Silas Melson for a loose ball with less than a minute remaining and the Tar Heels up by one. The Bulldogs shot just 33.9%, and turned the ball over 14 times.

Berry led all scorers with 22 points. Jackson had 16 but went 0-for-9 from 3.

It was the kind of stat line few could have predicted based on his dismal stat line against OR - but teammate Kennedy Meeks did. Before the title game tipped, Berry saw his father and mother and sisters in the crowd. The victory comes just one year after UNC lost the 2016 title game to Villanova at the buzzer.

The folks in Chapel Hill, N.C., don't care what kind of national title game they won, only that they won.

Big men Kennedy Meeks and Isaiah Hicks, and guard Nate Britt are departing seniors. Luke Maye made that shot.

Przemek Karnowski, Gonzaga's 7-foot-1, 300-pound wall of a center, had to dance around foul trouble most of the second half as well, leaving Gonzaga unable to effectively initiate its inside-out game. After losing in the very last seconds of last year's NCAA Tournament Championship, the University of North Carolina is crowned the champion of the 2017 tournament.

"He can't coach, he only recruits".

Redemption. Every team and/or player has a bad game. They sure did this March.
