British heavyweight boxing star Joshua knocks out Klitschko

After the fight, Klitschko wouldn't confirm that he would take a rematch - neither, for that matter, would promoter Eddie Hearn - but he was complimentary of his opponent.

Joshua produced the performance of his career to stop his Ukrainian counterpart with an enthralling knockout in front of a record 90,000 audience at the Wembley Stadium.

Referring to Klitschko, Joshua continued, "He is a role model in and out for the ring and I've got huge respect and love for Wladimir Klitschko". I didn't go into a 12-round slug-fest and struggle to beat Klitschko. "As long as Rob [McCracken, Joshua's trainer] thinks it's good I'm good to go".

Wladimir Klitschko may have lost, but he proved against Anthony Joshua that he's a true champion.

ANTHONY JOSHUA took part in an open training session at Wembley Arena on Tuesday night - here are some of the best photos.

"I know he's been talking a lot [but] I want to give the fans another chance to see an unforgettable night out at boxing".

"Whether he feels the same on reflection I don't know".

"We help out the village she came from and If I could do more on a large scale, I'll definitely come down there and associate myself more with Nigeria", Anthony Joshua added.

"Come on, is that what you want to see?"

"This division is so hot now and it would take it to the next step if we have only one champion".

"Anthony wouldn't mind going to Germany for it, but he won't be ready before October and that was a bad cut Wlad had". Now at 41 years old, with back to back losses for the first time in his career, many are wondering if the younger Klitschko brother will decide to hang up the boxing gloves.

"I'm not flawless but I'm trying", Joshua said.

"I have a rematch clause in the contract which I can execute".

"I thought he wouldn't get up (from the knockdown)", he said.

Joshua in the 6th round had his first professional fall to the canvass and looked close to surrendering his unbeaten record his late bombardment forced the stoppage of the bout.

Fury has been inactive since his defeat of Klitschko having most recently struggled with depression, but has made plenty of noise on social media in the run up to the fight having returned to training in Marbella. Joshua appeared gassed in round seven and Klitschko pressed the action. After being knocked down in Round 5, Klitschko had Joshua in big trouble in Round 6, dropping him with a big right hand.

"I thought he would not get up", said Klitschko. With all due respect, I came to hurt him.

On the question of his next fight, Klitschko said: "I'm not gonna consider anything, I'm not gonna make any statements right now".

"I was planning to do it, it didn't work".

"I learned I can knock out anyone". "Sometimes you can be a phenomenal boxer but this sport is about character".

At the time the fight ended, Joshua was ahead on two cards (96-93 and 95-93), and Klitschko led 95-93 on the other.
