Miocic 2nd UFC heavyweight defense is rematch vs. Dos Santos

That's extremely exciting while a set of chest-thumping challengers emerge to take on a powerful and athletic man who still has much to learn as a fighter. Miocic avenged a loss to Dos Santos in December 2014 in Phoenix, which was a five-round bout that left both fighters bloodied. It was exciting and action-packed as both fighters exchanged punches for almost the whole fight. Although, Dos Santos says he lacks the speed and experience to overcome the Kiwi on home soil. Miocic possesses great natural athleticism as this allows him to explode into his punches, and keep his feet movinga at all times.

Wednesday morning, Miocic was a minus-145 favorite, while dos Santos was plus-125, according to the Westgate Las Vegas Superbook.

Miocic earned himself $50K and the record for most UFC heavyweight title defenses. Miocic is a striker and a wrestler while dos Santos is a striker who doesn't utiilize his superior jiu-jitsu.

"The time is coming for Ngannou, who is still largely unproven, so we'll let that one play out, and Jones" heavyweight debut is still in limbo, as he must first get through Daniel Cormier at UFC 214 in Anaheim.

Miocic is going to batter dos Santos early and often. Heavyweight has never been a murderer's row, but right now the contenders are all names Miocic has seen already. We have to impose ourselves better during the fight. The side kick, particularly the defensive side kick, will allow dos Santos to create space and reset if necessary. He showed a full arsenal of tricks supported by fantastic boxing fundamentals and great takedown defense. Up until that point, he was one of the best strikers and most risky fighters in the promotion. He'll have to beat former UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos to retain his title, and that just happens to be the last man to beat him.

The Eastlake North graduate then jumped on dos Santos, who covered up the best he could.

"If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be here right now", said Miocic. And I'm not doing that and losing - I'm walking out with the belt still wrapped around my waist. He likely always will be.

"I respect Miocic a lot, he's a tough opponent that's why he's the champion right now".

"This has been a very unusual fight for Joanna", Andrade said through a translator Thursday at UFC 211 open workouts, "the way that she [handled] media day and everything regarding the opponent". Coulter could barely stand on his damaged leg, but continued to fight back. The main x-factor is Stipe having less miles on his engine.

Dana White informed Maia after the fight that the next time he steps in the octagon it will be with a UFC title on the line against Tyron Woodley. I thought [dos Santos] looked unbelievable this week - crisp, sharp punches. Her past four wins have been by unanimous decision.
