Apple's HomePod speaker coming this year

As were the rumors suggesting, Apple was going to launch a Wi-Fi speaker and the company did that at the WWDC 2017 keynote. The natural comparison here is to "smart speakers" like the Amazon Echo and Google Home.

Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing said, "Apple reinvented portable music with iPod and now HomePod will reinvent how we enjoy music wirelessly throughout our homes".

To activate the speaker, users can say "Hey Siri" and then ask to play songs from Apple Music. But if you don't need your speaker to go that deep, the HomePod may be worth the plunge when it arrives in December.

One was a new US$349 smart "HomePod" home speaker to 'reinvent ' home audio, which will be available in the United Kingdom and in the USA in December. The entire speaker system is powered by Apple A8, the same chipset that is present under the hood of iPhone 6. Also, it has also introduced a new music-based smart speaker called HomePod built to deliver topnotch audio experience. Other countries will get Apple's speaker next year.

At $349, the HomePod will be significantly more expensive than both Amazon Echo and Google Home. It's no surprise, but there's integration with the Apple Music online subscription.

Privacy has been a concern with home devices, as the mics are constantly listening in to user conversations while waiting for the command words, such as "OK Google". And with Apple's HomeKit, Apple's proprietary wireless protocol for controlling third-party smart home gadgets in iOS, HomePod serves as a hub that can control connected lights and thermostats.

The HomePod speaker looks to combine sound quality and voice control to compete with rivals such as Amazon and Google. Schiller talked up the HomePod's "musicologist" features, which can answer requests like 'Play something new, ' 'What was the top song in 1983?' and 'Who's the drummer in this?'. It will be available in white or grey.

The HomePod will be available in December, according to Apple's website. The HomePod uses spatial awareness to sense its location in a room and automatically adjust audio accordingly.

HomePod like all the other Apple devices send information to Apple's server in encrypted form and with your unique Siri identifier that makes your personal information secure.
