NBA Finals ratings highest since Jordan's last title in 1998

The Golden State Warriors are warming up for Game 3 of the NBA Finals in Cleveland Wednesday night.

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green hailed Kevin Durant and said he preferred his team-mate over Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James.

After two games, Durant has 71 points. Durant, who is chasing his first National Basketball Association championship, buried the go-ahead three-pointer over James with 45.3 seconds remaining, and made two foul shots with 12.9 seconds to go make it 116-113.

Curry was banged up in the Finals last year, but he's healthy this year and there's a lot less pressure on him because of Durant.

Last year, the Cavaliers responded, winning game three 120-90. "We're plain and simple going to have to play better".

James may be averaging a triple-double during the NBA Finals but the bulk of his production has come during the first half of the first two games.

There was no question about the entertainment value of much of the game, especially a predictably torrid start for teams that had been off and resting for two days. After an vehicle on NOS effort from LeBron in the first half, all he could do is watch as Durant hit a 3 on one side, get a stop on the other, and have Steph slowly dribble up to sink a 29-foot 3 on the other side to close out the game at 121-99. Up by the score of 113-107 with just over three minutes left, they appeared poised to make it a competitive series.

"Klay didn't hang his head when Kyrie was going off", Curry said. We have a better handle on how you have to approach things. And yet, it was Golden State 67-61 at the buzzer, than in large part to a 12-5 advantage in 3-point baskets.

Asked if there's anything he could do differently, James said, "I gave everything that I had to this game, so I don't look at it saying I wish I could have did this or I would have did that".

"We like the pace; they like the pace", Warriors coach Steve Kerr said before the game. If LeBron and company can't keep the Warriors from sweeping through the playoffs, what chance does any other team in the future have?

The key one came late in the third quarter after Cleveland cut the deficit to four points.

The difference: three point shooting variance, and Kevin Durant.

James and Love combined to make 24 of 41 shots, while the rest of the team shot just 36 percent with only Irving even reaching double-figures. "That's what Golden State does".

"(Game 3 is) always hard no matter what happens in the first two games", he said.

Of course, it is a different game now. Kyrie Irving hadn't been great in Games 1 and 2, but played like a superstar tonight. They did it last year, the year before and now again this season.

"If they lost 100-99 twice, they'd still be down 0-2", Potts said. We saw what happened a year ago.

They take a 2-0 lead over Cleveland into Wednesday's Game 3, just as they did past year.
