OnePlus 5 specs: iPhone copycat by the numbers

On the whole, the OnePlus 5 is an excellent smartphone that is blazingly fast and has reasonably good cameras, if not the best.

The OnePlus 5 is set to go up for sale at 4:30 pm on June 22 via Amazon India. For the phone's stark similarity with the iPhone 7 Plus is hard to miss.

One of these is the silent switch, which you won't find on any Android phone at the moment.

You could never call last year's OnePlus 3T ugly, but this latest generation has still managed to give the looks a major overhaul for 2017. There's no microSD support, but it does have a dual SIM tray, along with USB-C, Dash Charging, and a new dual-camera system.

Only those wanting "a better screen and a sleeker design" will opt for the S8, although it's a considerable premium to pay "if you want the best phone available".

This means you get a different buzz in your jeans pocket depending on who's calling. As such, you got to be carrying the OnePlus provided charging infrastructure at all times. It's nice to see at least one OEM still embracing metal design in the face of all the slippery, fragile, and fingerprint-prone glass phones these days. On the front, the OnePlus 5 offers a 16MP camera with Sony IMX371 sensor paired with f/2.0 aperture with support for FHD video capturing. As noted, OnePlus does offer great hardware and it is still markedly cheaper than other flagships on the market. The telephoto zoom helps maintain detail when you zoom in, and the dual camera sensors allow you to take portrait shots with the bokeh effect that iPhone 7 Plus can deliver.

What we can expect from the iPhone 8? So, if you were to make a choice between onePlus5 and OnePlus3T, the former is any day better, considering the price comparison of both.

After months of endless rumors and reports, the OnePlus 5 was officially announced yesterday. A phone is more than just its appearance. "We are not overclocking the device, rather we are displaying the performance potential of the OnePlus 5". There's no denying that OnePlus looked at the iPhone for inspiration when it comes to the OnePlus 5's design, but also for smaller things like the user interface for the camera app.

At USD 479, there is not too much to quibble about the spec sheet. As for iPhone 8 that's coming later this year, there's simply no contest.

A quick note: While some may argue that OnePlus devices haven't always been true high-end phones - compared to the likes of Samsung's Galaxy and the iPhone - OnePlus has always positioned its phones as "flagship killers".
