Tropical Botanical Garden Xishuangbanna - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, CAS or Chinese: 中国科学院 西双版纳 热带 (XTBG) is a botanical garden of about 900 hectares , which is located in Xishuangbanna City, Yunnan Province, China.

It is administratively dependent on the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

The International Identification Code of the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden as a member of the Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI), as well as the acronym of herbarium is HITBC .


The Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden is bordered by the Luosuo River, a tributary of the Mekong River, the site of the park belongs to a Dai Autonomous Prefecture (/ Xishuangb anna) and is inhabited by more than 10 autonomous minority nationalities.

The XTBG was created in 1959 under the botanical director Cai Xitao.

The XTBG was an affiliate of the Kunming Botanical Institute, CAS, under the Chinese Academy of Sciences Kunming branch (KIB-CAS).

Since its founding, XTBG has maintained a sustainable exploitation, use and conservation of the resources of tropical plants, and has carried out research on the conservation of plant diversity, ethnobotany, and economic uses of the plants of the area.


The garden includes diverse landscapes, where there is protected forest:

  • Tropical rainforest
  • Monsoon rainforest
  • Subtropical evergreen jungle

At almost 40 years, more than 3000 species of plants have been collected and grown in about 20 live plant collections:
