On Sunday, October 30, 2011, the Puerto Rico Natural History Society will hold the Migratory Bird Festival at the Santa Ana Environmental Center (CASA) , located in Julio E. Monagas Park in Bayamón. This activity takes place in collaboration with the Society for the Conservation and Study of Birds of the Caribbean and the Environment for the Americas (EFTA).

Throughout the month they will be conducting birdwatching, workshops, talks and will conclude with the final celebration on Sunday, October 30.

"2011 was declared by the UN as the International Year of Forests , and in October we are celebrating these birds visit us every year in search of these spaces that serve as a refuge, food and rest area, "said CASA director Eliezer Nieves Rodriguez. "That's why we must conserve the forests, so that they are always available for these friends who visit us every year and make a long journey to survive."

Nieves Rodríguez also said that "migratory birds are also part of our biodiversity, although for a few months, but they share with us and we must receive them and take care of them. For that we have to know them and understand the phenomenon of migration. " He also explained that "these birds either move to the Caribbean or starve during the winter."

On October 30 there will be birdwatching tours, reading the story El querequequé arrives to the CASA, talk about migrating birds, ecological activities and games about migratory birds, interpretive route through the path Las Arañas, sale of educational materials and awards to participating children. The first 30 children will be given a numbered bird ring limited edition and commemorative festival. The activity is free.
