The column that has adopted the Broad Street School Debate Team as it completes its first season in the Garden State Debate League, and we like our chances in the nationals in Terrytown, NY, with speakers like Yonathan Casas and Giselle Yanez, with "best speaker awards" already under their belts.

We are going to have some of the Broad Street School Debate Team on 92.1 before they compete in the nationals because no written story can of them justice.

You have to hear these kids for yourself.

We missed the first four.

On Oct. 18 of last year, they traveled to Stone Bridge at the other end of the earth.

Here is the official line: "We felt as though our kids had a lot to say and needed an outlet. They are extremely intelligent and respectful children who engage one another in Socratic Seminar class, mock trials and class debates.

"Truly an amazing group."

Feed them well, coaches. Pancakes for breakfast because pancakes stick with you.

Forget the pizza for lunch.

Healthy food leads to healthy minds. You do not want to lump pizza laying in your stomach while you're summing up for a debate.

Championship food for a championship team!

Can we have a cheerleading assembly to send them off?

Can we invite them to the March board of education meeting in their new T-shirts to wish them good luck?

"These kids are the hardest working kids I've seen," said Bridges. "They want to do it for Bridgeton. They have the camaraderie.

"And they're humble."
