Bisping Vs Silva at UFC 105? A Rumour states Silva’s manager.

182732__pinocchio_lWell it’s been a week for rumors has it not? First off we had the death of Kimo being reported and fans tweeting and blogging ‘RIP’ statements to all and sundry. This was all going great and we all felt quite moved and reflective until Kimo screwed it all up by coming back from the dead to spoil what had been a good staple story for MMA land.

Next up was Fedor’s opponents where everyone from my Uncle Derek to Rocky Balboa were lining up deals to take on the Russian champ or the “bald-headed commie” as touted by US flag patterned hot pants wearing Pride star from the past Don Frye.

Then we had the what seemed plausible, but slightly odd comeback bout for Michael Bisping against another ex Pride heavy hitter and KO artist Wanderlei Silva. This news first broke out from MMABay.co.uk where they ran the story stating:

“News of the fight was passed along to MMABay by a source at the Wand Fight Team in Las Vegas, Nevada who revealed that the Brazilian would be putting pen to paper very soon after returning from receiving the key to the city in Pensacola, Florida. It will be the first fight of his career to be competed at 185 pounds.”

This story was then picked up by every other MMA blog / site going and tweeted around the interweb. Yours truly was even guilty of retweeting this ‘news’ and if the site had not been down I would have no doubt likely covered the story too. It all just started to sound quite viable! Think about it both fighters were suffering losses, so one would come out the victor and a more legitimate option for Joe Silva to pitch on later cards.  However eventually this was a faffed up when Silva’s manager released a statement to Fighters Only Magazine stating:

““The rumors about Wanderlei fighting Michael Bisping at UFC 105 in Manchester or at any point are simply that, rumors.”

“For some publication to say they have been given an exclusive statement on this from Team Wand is not truthful,” he added. “Certainly, there have been no formal proposals or discussions relative to this match-up.”

So what’s next fight fans, can anyone think up a great story for a slow week news wise? I got it….

Dana white leaves the UFC to head up M1-Global?

or how about….

BJ Penn leaves MMA to pursue a career in Ballet?

Why not add your own and automatically get entered for the UK MMA news offical great give away? First prize will be a pair of much sort after Michael Jackson Tickets.

Lights out for Bisping.

There has been a lot of debate on the Internet as to if the second punch was merited or over the top and dangerous. My feeling is that its a standard reaction for a fighter to jump right in once their opponent is floored with the sole purpose of finishing the fight, so I can forgive Henderson for that. What I did find disappointing was the way he continued to joke and jibe while an unconscious Bisping was being attended to by a doctor and still stretched out on the canvas. He did not even go over once to check he was ok, but instead posed for Photographs. Yeah granted, Bisping was very verbal leading up to the fight, but for all Henderson knew at that juncture it could have been a life of eating and drinking through a straw and wearing nappies for Bisping had he suffered brain damage.

Maybe my standards have been set to high and at the end of the day this is cage fighting not a love in, but I always feel more akin to fighters who show diginity and respect to their opponents post fight in much the same way as the GSP’s, Silva’s, Franklin’s and Emelianenko’s of this world.

After all I have always been told Honour, Respect and Dignity are the intrinsic warrior values of the Martial Arts.

Cage Gladiators to cease trading.

It comes as Sad news to UK MMA News to hear that the ‘Cage Gladiators’ will cease trading and thus no longer hold anymore MMA events.

The announcement was made official on their website on yesterday (Friday the 3rd of July);

“Cage Gladiators Statement
After many successful MMA events Cage Gladiators ltd is sad to announce that it will no longer be putting on MMA events and is ceasing trading. Emile Coleman requested to leave the company due to personal commitments and this resulted in the partnership not being viable. This weekend’s event in Chester has now been cancelled and we would like to apologise to any fighters and camps that have prepared for this event. There will be no future Cage Gladiator events.
Cage Gladiators would like to thank everybody who has played some part in its success, there are far too many people to mention but you all know who you are.
Chris Zorba will be staying in the world of UK MMA and will announce his future plans forthwith.
Emile Coleman will be working on both non related MMA projects and carrying on teaching. “

New Welsh MMA night a success.

A new MMA event proved to be a success by pulling in 1,000 specatators into Liquid nightclub in Wrexham.

Promoter Russ Williams told the Evening Leader “It was a success for the local fighters with Gavin Davies, Chris Drewitt, Delwyn Roberts, Rob Jones Wil Killow and Sean Kennedy all winning with point decisions,” said Russ.

“Marc Evans deserved a win but received a draw against the Thai Dee Maphan.

“Mahmut Icer showed he hadn’t lost any of his power after shedding around 18 kilos to get down to weight for his fight.

“He won his three-round bout by a unanimous points decision.

“Aaron Abi, Radek Gorny and Hayden Russell all won with first round knock outs.

“Radek hit his opponent with a low kick then a kick to the head, ko-ing Dean Rowley from the Tap or Snap gym in Mansfield in just nine seconds.”

Murray Arrested again

ESPN has reported that Lee Murray is now back in Moroccan Police custody.

“Lee was re-arrested because the British authorities have put a formal request to the Moroccan authorities to have Lee tried in Morocco for the robbery,” Abdellah Benlamhidi, Murray’s attorney in Rabat, told ESPN in an e-mail. “Lee is the hands of the Moroccan police right now.”

UK officials refused comment on the latest twist in the headline-grabbing case. In the British county of Kent, where the heist occurred, a police spokesman told ESPN, “We are waiting to receive direction from the Moroccan judiciary as to which direction they would now like to take.”
