Gregory McCalium armed with a knife forced entry into the house of Mr Corti and his wife Margaret in the early hours of an August morning last year. McCalium had then lunged at Mr Corti’s stomach with the knife, but missed, so in self defence Mr Corti threw a two punch combination leaving McCalium with a black eye and swollen lip. Mr Corti then restrained McCalium until the police arrived.
Gregory McCalium, 23, has now been jailed for four-and-a half years for aggravated burglary.
Last night, Mr Corti 72 – ex-boxer and soldier with the Royal Engineers in North Africa said: “We are very pleased (with the sentence) because our life was severely disrupted by the incident and we are pleased he won’t be troubling us for a few years.” “I had to restrain him before he could go and get the knife.
“I was scared when he first threw the knife, but most people would have acted in the same way.” “If you can’t defend what’s yours, where are we at?” Mr Corti told the Oxford news.
