OMMAC IV – Victorious Results

Saturday March 6th saw the 4th installment of Olympian Mixed Martial Arts Championships in Liverpool, an event which is fast establishing itself as one of the premiere MMA promotions in the UK with top quality cards and an electric atmosphere.

Local favourite Paul “Sassangle” Sass went 10-0-0 and retained the lightweight belt with a quick submission win over Jason Young. Wanting nothing of the standup, Sass went for the takedown from the off and once it hit the mat it was only a matter of time before the Kaobon fighter found the fight ending finish. A disappointed Young had to tap out to a tight heel hook. After this victory surely the local lad must now take the next step up in competition and fight some European names to take his career to the next level.

In the other big fight of the night and a replacement to the promised main event of Paul Cahoon vs Alex Makhonin, Wanye Murrie took the welterweight title in a tough decision against the tough veteran Pete Irving. Both proved to be well-rounded and the former thaiboxing champion Murrie looked to be in a position to finish with a couple of tight looking submissions but Irving was able to tough it out. For his part Irving was scoring big takedowns but was unable to gain any significant positional dominance and after the final bell the judges were all in agreement that it would be Murries hand that was raised at the end.
